What was meant to happen?

We were suppose to pass the Pre-line inspection.

What did happen?

Well the inspector came an did his inspection for the insulation of the house and found that there some places, very little places that didn't have any insulation in that area. And we failed the inspection because of that.

Why did it happen ?

This happened because straight after we finished putting in the insulation we thought we were ready for our inspection without going around to check if all the holes and gaps were filled in. This is what we should of done but instead we ended calling for an inspection.

What did we do to fix it?

After we got the details from the inspector on what we had failed in the inspection we went around the house searching for holes that needed to be filled in. Even the tiniest gap you could see had to be filled in.

It wasn't that much of a problem, it was just a little mistake of not double checking to see if we had filled every gap for all walls. I reckoned it would've been a better idea to double check the whole house first before assuming that the insulation was awesome. At least now we know what to do now that we have already been through what would happen if you fail next time we'll double check the walls before proceeding on... =)

What was meant to happen?

Had to construct a roof from using a drawing plan we had drawn up in class.

What did happen?

We started to build the roof correctly according to the plan but then when it came to the minor roof we had a bit of a problem. The measurements (length and the width) were the other way around. so then me and Lole had to go back up to the class room to re draw and find the problem. Also, to see if this would have stuffed up any of the other measurements or angles.

Why did it happen?

This had happened because of a mistake deciding whether the width was the length or the length was the width.

What we did to fix it ?

Me and Lole took our drawing plan back up to the class room and had to re draw the minor roof because of the incorrect measurements. Also had to draw our triangles again. Then bring the plan back to the group to continue on with our project.

One of the Construction industry's main plan to a successful job with any project would have to be a drawing plan. With out a drawing plan this will drag the time of the job further on then it was supposed to be finished at. You are also suppose to be working to the proper dimensions otherwise this would be a hassle.This would be bad for the job because then you will have to find your information from some where else or manufactures and doing that would slow the process of the job. Having a drawing would be very helpful to the job cause there will be specific drawings for the detailed area and those measurements would have to be spot on to otherwise you would not pass the inspection.

What was meant to happen?

Obtain a checklist for the foundation inspection.

What did happen?

Searched up on the Auckland city council website for a checklist and the requirements for the foundations inspection. Hardly found information for both of the topics. Was suppose to get a checklist to help us out with requirements of the inspection.

Why did it happen?

This happened so that we could kill time in prepping up for the inspection. This would've helped out a lot of time and saves us from walking around with the inspector to fix up any problems.

What did we do to fix it?

We gathered some information from a few colleagues about the foundations inspection made a checklist. Then went around the house ticking off the boxes on our checklist.

The Construction industry communicates with documents in several ways of communication. Documents such as plans, maps, drawings or even the council papers like a building consent form. You could use a checklist that you have made up as a document to communicate in the industry because this can help with the building of the house. A checklist is very helpful for when it comes to inspection time. This would help to see if you reach the requirements on the checklist you have made or be up to date with the building process of the house. This can turn out to a success and save you time and money. =)

Territorial Authority compliance.

 What was meant to happen?

Make a checklist for the (CCC) Clearance of residential buildings.

What did happen?

Well we did make a checklist but it wasn't for the CCC instead it was for the insulation of the house.

Why did happen?

I think there was a little misunderstanding of which checklist i was suppose to write up. I think at the time we were talking about the checklist for the CCC we also talked about the insulation so i think that kind of got me mixed up with which checklist i was suppose to make.

What did we do to fix it?

We just made another checklist and searched up on the T.A website for some of the requirements for this CCC inspection.

Compliance requirement documents are documents that the Territorial Authority hold on to. A compliance document could be a checklist. A checklist for CCC clearance of residential buildings is a compliance paper which has all the requirements that need to be ticked off to proceed with the work or not. The checklist must have all the boxes ticked off in order to move on to the next part of the job. To get the pass or the 'Yes' for this document, An inspector or a representative from the council would do the inspection on your house and then get the signature to show you pass the inspection. This is very good because now you can continue on with the house project and the time frame of the building and the project will be up to date. The downfall for failing an inspection is time. And time is money. Because you will have to fix up what ever was wrong and have another inspection.

Sustainability . Transport.

An issue of sustainability due to job perspectives is traffic. For me , a way i recon to sustain traffic for myself is catching a ride with a mate from work . This can also save me money from spending it on petrol every week and eases car congestion. Maybe help out with global warming i think. Going to work this way is much easier for me because i don't have to use my car. Sometimes when i do have my car the boss would tell me to go to another site and do some work there but since i didn't bring my car i cant go. What was meant to happen was i drive my car to work and go to another if the boss says to. What did happen was i get picked up from a mate who i work with. And he just stays down the road from me too. This happened because since me and my mate work at the same place i should just catch a ride with him and leave my car at home for the family to use.

Electronic Problem throught the phone.

A Problem with talking over the mobile phone depends on the reception of where you are I think. For example, i know someone who has experienced this problem. One day this fella that i work with was on his way to the job out west where he has been working there quite a while. Soon , the boss rings him up and tells to go the job down south but i think the fella heard the boss wrong and went to the job out epsom. Some how i think the guy heard wrong and this wasted half the day because of him driving back and forth. The documentation involved in this incident could of been having a roster for this job . This would of saved the other guy from driving the whole day.

Spot Leveling Communication & Documentation

Level dumpy

To use a dumpy correctly you could communicate by telling and showing the person by the manual and explaining to that person how to operate the dumpy properly. When reading the levels through the scope a good way to check that if the levels are accurate is having two people reading the scope and taking down the measurements to see if they both have the same measurements. Also , you can use the dumpy to communicate to others about the right height for the job that you are doing or the height of the FFL. The use of the data recorded could be used to find the floor level height on each corner of the house and to work out how much dirt you would have to take out. The documentation involved in this incident is the spot levels sheet and the house plans for where about's you would set up .

Steel Fixer. Communication on site.

Today i was working on a construction site out Manukau. The job was to put up the bars for the wall. The Boss I work with is from Chile and his accent is really hard to understand. When he explains what the job is for the day he says words i cant hear properly so I interrupt and say what i think the word is. When we work on-site and he calls me to bring over some bars and he'll use his fingers to show how many to take over. Also when putting up the bar to tie on to the vertical bars the person at the end has to make sure that the overlap over the other bar is 600mm. The person will either say 'towards me' or 'back to you', when it's in place he'll say 'yep' then well tie up the bar. And there are the two forms of communication on this site.

The Documentation involved was the plans and a few drawings. This helped out quite a bit because I understood what he was trying to say and where and what to tie the steel bar to. To avoid this problem happening again, Next time the boss tries to explain something to me I'll have to grab the plans to help me know what he's talking about.Also interrupt him if I don't understand , that way I don't stuff up the job if i just when and did whatever .
